Review

Hearts of Iron 2 is a sequel to the original Hearts of Iron. The game is improved almost in every aspect compared to the original, which was already a great game. Hearts of Iron 2 is a strategic simulator for the WWII era. In the game, you can choose any of the nations in the world at that point in history (except some small nations like San Marino, Monaco, etc). This is a grand strategy game, meaning you control everything, from diplomacy and chain of production, to even unit movement. You can control the alliances of your nation, as well as the policies of your own nation. The policy of your nation will give you different bonuses and penalties. In the game you'll find a need to balance everything, including the resources your nation have.

Because this is a war game, you also control units and brigades. The player can control these air, land and sea divisions on the strategical map, issuing their orders and movements. The amount of things to do is huge, and many gamers will certainly find all these detail appealing. But there will be some others feeling overwhelmed by the seize of things, and will find the game less attractive.
Advantages
  • One of the best strategic simulators for WWII.
Disadvantages
  • Steep learning curve.
